This infographic is a visualization project of data for violence committed against American women in 2019.
My initial concept was to focus on women’s suffering in the world, and highlight the different ways that abuse can be perpetuated. I narrowed down my data to center on the statistics for American women from one year, and 2019 was the most recent year that had research fully completed. In this infographic, I chose to portray a map of the United States as a collection of women’s limbs.
I included statistics from different demographics, including Women of Color, the LGBTQ+ community, and Minors. Additionally, I researched the amount of unreported data, which affects the final numbers included in the overall data, and the reasons women may not report the violence committed against them. I also included information from human trafficking, including the average ages of women trafficked as well as general data for the United States.
